Overview

Birmingham City University (BCU) required a significant upgrade to its wireless infrastructure to enhance connectivity and improve network coverage across its estate.

The challenge was to deploy over 1,000 new WAPs while ensuring minimal disruption to students and staff. BSNE was selected to lead this extensive upgrade program, integrating new data wiring and containment solutions whilst maintaining full operational capacity.

Solutions & Implementation

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: We worked closely with BCU’s IT department, project team, and academic representatives to schedule installations at convenient times and locations.
  • Strategic Planning: The deployment of WAPs were phased systematically to ensure each site received its upgrades without operational interruptions.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Our team ensured that all installations adhered to industry standards, minimising risk to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Efficient Execution: With a dedicated workforce, we streamlined installation processes, reducing downtime and maximising the speed of deployment.

Results & Impact

  • Enhanced Connectivity: The upgraded WAPs significantly improved network reliability, speed, and coverage across all BCU sites.
  • Zero Operational Disruptions: Our approach ensured that university activities remained uninterrupted throughout the 11-month project duration.
  • Successful Project Completion: The program was delivered on time and within scope, reinforcing BCU’s commitment to modern digital infrastructure.
